Watch with Mother

I may be giving my age away somewhat...but I just wanted to have a little delve into my formative years as a budding artist! My biggest influence on my illustrations has to be TV animation from my childhood, in particular from the 'Watch with Mother' lunchtime slot on BBC1 and later with the children's programmes on at teatime. ..running roughly from 1966-1975.

It's fascinating to look back at these wonderful little programmes made for pre-schoolers & infants, they are so rich in every way possible. From the great narratives and story telling to the brilliant characterisation & imaginative illustration & model making. Over the next few weeks I'm going to pick out some of my personal favourites, which I still enjoy watching on Youtube to this day. They say TV is no good for children, & indeed it can be in  these days of rolling 12 hours of Cbeebies & CBBC etc, but when it gets it right, children's tv storytelling through thoughtful care & craft, can be inspiring & magical stuff...take it from me!
